Chopsmith Sequencer Privacy Note
Short version: Chopsmith Sequencer works on your Mac. Your music, your projects and what you do in Chopsmith Sequencer never leave it. The only thing Chopsmith Sequencer sends over the internet is a licence check.
What Chopsmith Sequencer sends, and when
Only when you activate your licence key, and when it re-checks the licence (about every two weeks, and only if the internet is available), Chopsmith Sequencer sends a request to Polar (polar.sh), who sell and manage Chopsmith Sequencer licences for us. That request contains:
- your licence key;
- our store's identifier;
- a name for this Mac in the form "Chopsmith Sequencer on <your Mac's name>", taken from your Mac's computer name (shown in your customer portal so you can tell your Macs apart; rename your Mac in System Settings > General > Sharing first if you'd rather it didn't appear);
- a code made from your Mac's hardware ID by a one-way function, so the licence can be tied to this Mac. The hardware ID itself is not sent.
Polar answers with whether the key is valid and the email address it was bought with, which Chopsmith Sequencer shows as "licensed to ...".
The demo never contacts anyone. Chopsmith Sequencer has no analytics, tracking or crash reporting. The "Buy a licence" button only opens Polar's checkout page in your web browser.
What Chopsmith Sequencer keeps on your Mac
~/Library/ApplicationSupport/Chopsmith Sequencer/: your activation (licence key, email, the activation's ID, your Mac's hardware ID, the date of the last check), signed so it can't be edited, and a marker that the licence window was shown once.- "Chopsmith Sequencer song data.json" next to Chopsmith Sequencer.amxd: tempos, grids, keys, favourites and the last crate folder for songs you've used.
- Temporary audio copies in
/private/tmp, which Chopsmith Sequencer cleans up and macOS clears on restart.
None of these files are sent anywhere. Delete them at any time; deleting the Application Support folder just means you'll activate again.
Your purchase
When you buy Chopsmith Sequencer, Polar (the merchant of record) processes your payment, email address and billing country under its own privacy policy (polar.sh/legal/privacy-policy). We see your email address, country and order in our Polar dashboard, and use your email only for your purchase, support, and important notices about Chopsmith Sequencer. We don't sell or share it.
To free a Mac or see your activations, use the customer portal link in your purchase email. To have your purchase records deleted, email us; we'll ask Polar to do the same where the law allows (some records must be kept for tax purposes).
This website
synchaven.syncpodcast.com is hosted by Cloudflare and counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies and doesn't follow you to other sites. It records which pages are viewed, the site that linked there, and the country and type of browser and device, and we only see those as totals.
The mailing list
If you sign up for updates on the website, your email address goes to Kit (kit.com), the service that sends our emails, under its own privacy policy (kit.com/privacy). We use it only to send news about Sync Haven's products: new versions, new devices and sales. We don't sell or share it. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list. Signing up is separate from buying: the demo and Chopsmith Sequencer itself never ask for it.
